My Etsy Studio Shop is slowly getting stocked as I work my way through my Art inventory

and more people are starting to take notice and asking me about commissioning pieces.

So all in all I can’t really complain.

Plus I’m back to working on my 4’x4′ Garden on Knowledge painting.

The background is set and the base of the left side of the tree is in so now things will really start to get interesting.

Remember if you want to commission something message me, I’m your girl!

Public Art Submission

Well my submission is sent in now to sit and wait, and pace, and hope and dream….lol

What in the world am I talking about?

Well you see, the city I live in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta is looking for ART submissions for the new city hall

http://www.fortsask.ca/ftsk_Business/Initiatives.aspx?id=10878

The particularly exciting part is this line right here: “Submission will be accepted under two themes: a modern contemporary piece or our river and river valley.”

Modern Contemporary is right up my alley!

My proposal was for a nice big 7′ x 4′ foot pure Abstract painting with lots of nice texture and bright vibrant colors!

Best yet it would be hung just inside the Front Entrance to City Hall so lots of traffic.

I’m sure it would look amazing hanging there and would most assuredly be a conversation piece.

But now I have to wait!

Today was the last day for submissions.

Then they are going over the submissions on Tuesday June 4th and the selected party(ies) are supposed to be contacted June 7th.

Maybe if I hold my breath and Pray REALLY Hard???

Oh well if life has taught me anything it’s that you can’t bribe God lol so what will be is what will be meant to be.

Patience & Acceptance

Cheers,

Amanda

Oh ya almost forgot!

My Etsy shop is being set up so go check it out

Making Press

Just had to share with everyone that I made it into today’s copy of “The Record“, Fort Saskatchewan’s local paper.

Here’s the article:

Abstract artist takes over DCC art gallery this month

Posted By Jordie Dwyer / Record Staff

February 19, 2010

Opening minds to new and different aspects of artistic expression is what art galleries are supposed to be about. And this month, the Alberta Lottery Fund Art Gallery at the Dow Centennial Centre is expanding its boundaries and, for the first time, featuring work that pushes the line on abstract art. Amanda Milke, originally from Moncton, N.B., but now living in Fort Saskatchewan, approached the gallery about how to get an exhibit and was excited when she learned they would show her work this month. “I’m not really big on realism,” Milke said, who came to the city with husband Jonathan — who grew up in the Fort — about two years ago. “Some of the work I’ve done is simply my life experiences put on canvas. Other work is religiously inspired and some is just a means of venting.” Milke began painting around 15 years ago and quickly found doing still life rather boring. “That’s when I moved into abstract work,” she stated. “Some of my work are a definite departure, while others are done on the spur of the moment.” The exhibit, which runs each Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Feb. 26 as well as prior to all Shell Theatre shows, is Milke’s way of getting out into the community.”This show is fairly groundbreaking, as it is the first time the gallery has shown abstract work,” Milke said.”My hope is that it breaks the perception of what is considered art and that helps people be more open.”As for reactions to her work, Milke explained she’s had a very mixed review so far.”Everything from people saying they really don’t like it — sometimes in a little more colourful language — to one little elderly lady saying, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s wonderful,'” she said. While the exhibit ends next week, Milke’s work can still be viewed on her website.

Neat! 🙂

I’m hoping to grab a hard copy of the paper sometime today.

Cheers,

Amanda

New Abstract

Hello again,

I find Art shows are the best way to get the artistic blood flowing again and that seems to be what’s happened.

Sunday I felt the need to sit down, put on some music and do an abstract, so I did.

I aimed for a complete abstract in the style of “Unexplained” because I really do think there are times when art should be done “just because”.

So here it is:  Be-cause~ 13″ x 9.5″

I’m thinking this may turn into a 5 part series since I happen to have 5 of these sized canvases at my disposal.

So stay tuned

Cheers,

Amanda
