As Promised

Late yes, but here all the same.

Over the next few days I’ll be posting some paintings/pieces that I’ve been working on and have finally completed.

The first of which is not yet named.

I had originally started this piece in the style of Despair but had changed my mind mid way through.

This was the result.

back

The textured on this piece is great, hopefully you can get a sense of it in the photo. It was a midnight inspired piece, by which I mean, I was tired but was in a painting mood until the early hours. It was also one of the many pieces sitting around the house that was in need of finishing. For the summer months, I’m working two jobs to help pay the bills so needless to say time is sparse.

We have just finished hammering out the contract details with my Art Dealer so it will be interesting to see if any sales come from that.

In the contract negotiations, my husband (who is handling the majority of the details for me) came to a point  where he had to explain to my dealer that not all artists see their work as a mere commodity to be sold, and that I was one of those that didn’t.

The reason I mention this, is because it gives a little insight into where the inspiration for my art comes from.

So here it is:

“I think one thing needs to be clarified.  To you, art is a commodity…. To Amanda, every piece is a small portrait of where she has been in her life.  She doesn’t paint to be connected to something.  She doesn’t paint to tell anyone else anything about the world.  She paints to put her emotions to rest.  Art is not a hobby or a pastime for my wife.  It isn’t a job.  Art is the cathartic process of release, and certain of her paintings were created as the only means she had of keeping from going crazy or worse…… but please be aware that this isn’t actually about the money or fame although both would be nice.  Amanda wants to know what people think.   She wants to know how people react.  She wants to know if people look at Despair and think, “Yeah,  I’ve felt that.”  Because that’s when she knows that it’s all been worth it.”

Cheers,

Amanda

Art News

I won’t begin to list the reasons why I haven’t posted lately (primarily illness) but I will tell you some news.

We (hubby & I ) went out shopping Saturday since it was FCBD (Free Comic Book Day) but before we hit the comic shops we stopped into a local craft sale.

I thought perhaps I might find some gift ideas for mother’s day.

Anyway as I was browsing  Jonathan came across a lady that was selling a variety art work and other artsy/crafty items.

He being the proud hubby he is mentioned that his wife also was an artist and was having trouble breaking into the local art community.

That’s when he discovered that it wasn’t her art she was selling but artists that she represented.

Turns out she’s an Art Dealer and has her own small gallery.

She was interested in seeing my work and came by our place on Sunday to have a look.

Long story short, she liked my work and was interested in representing me.

So our simple shopping excursion ended with me finding an Art Dealer.

Crazy world.

And as it turns out, the annual Art walk is happening this week so I’ll have some of my work on display

and for sale. I’ll also be painting in the Axis building downtown on Saturday.

Fort Saskatchewan Downtown Art Walk
Tuesday, May 5 through Saturday, May 9, 2009
See what local artists have to offer at downtown’s annual Celebration of the Arts.
So ya, you never know what could happen when you walk out your front door each day.
More to come!
Cheers,
Amanda

As you may have noticed,

acrylic-paintI’ve taken a break from posting.

I felt I needed some time to collect my thoughts, pool my creativity and catch up on my reading/research.

Although I enjoy the challenge of trying to post new artwork on a regular basis I decided I needed some space to re-center myself.

No I haven’t stopped painting, quite the opposite, I’m currently working on something that will be my largest piece to date.

(I’m not talking wall size or anything that grand but definitely larger than I’ve done in past).

This particular piece requires my full attention and I fear straying from it to work on other things may hinder its progress.

So, until it is complete  all other art work has ceased.

I promise I’ll share this new creation with you just as soon as I feel it’s finished and ready to be seen.

Until then, sit tight, read a book and stay creative.

Cheers,

Amanda

Thursday Daydreams

Again as promised here is one of the pieces I finished while I’ve been sick.

I was talking to another old High School friend a few weeks ago and she commented that she really liked my “Echoed Thought” piece. Continue reading “Thursday Daydreams”
