Print & Press

Well, I attempted the hand coloring of the magnolia prints but didn’t like them.

They didn’t pop like I wanted them to, so I’m leaving them black and white.

After that, I mounted the lino on to wooden blocks and pressed them down with my detergent bottle.

I also did the first printing of the pomegranate block print.

It didn’t turn out as crisp as I wanted it to, but it’s fine it gave me some idea of what to do when I do the good prints.

Here are the pics.

Oh, and I included pictures of the actual magnolia and betta blocks.

I’ll be posting more pomegranate prints soon.

Pomegranates

I love Pomegranates.

Little bright red jewels filled with explosive forever staining sweet juice.

I feel like I’m at a point in my life where things are semi-simple.

Which in retrospect is odd given all the crap that’s come up, but still.

So why the sudden exclamatory love of fruit?

Well as you know, I’ve been working on  block prints lately and when examining my source of inspiration

I’ve discovered I tend to focus on all the ordinary beautiful things in life that I’ve come to enjoy.

Like Magnolias, Bettas and Pomegranates which I’m currently working on.

So until I get that finished, I leave you with “Dream Caused by the flight of a bee” by Salvador Dali

Making Prints

Originally, I had planned to work on these prints yesterday; however, I ended up not having time.

Since I plan and play around with colors ’til I find what I like, I only did a limited run of prints, only 5 of each.

Each print is done on nice, thick, off-white watercolor paper, and I deckled the edges for a decorative finish.

For now, I have to wait until they’re  thoroughly dry.

If I like how they turn out, then I’ll print some more.

You may (if you’re observant) notice that the prints are the tiniest bit different from the ones posted in my block print gallery; that’s because I touched them up a bit to sharpen the images before I printed them.

Well, I suppose I should go find something else to occupy my time while I watch ink dry :).

Betta Art

As you may or may not know by following my other blog, I took a Lino cut block printing class back in January.

Since then, I’ve been searching for ideas of things to carve/print.

My most recent inspiration came from Yuki, my old Betta may he rest in peace.

Since I’ve  always loved how finny Siamese fish are, I thought it would make for some fun carving.

So here is the finished product

I plan on printing it on watercolor paper later on and coloring it up.

I’ll re-post when I’m done.
