In sickness & health

I hope this isn’t foreshadowing for the rest of 2009.

So where have I been you might ask…oh yanno sick.

After Christmas holidays I started  feeling very lethargic.

No energy and no motivation.

So I spent my days off lounging around, reading,  sleeping, knitting, watching anime all zero energy activities.

(wait days “off” you say? Yes, days off. I started working part time at the Dow Center ~ironically the same building that has the art gallery that is hosting my work in 2010~ as a Child minding attendant. I essentially help supervise and take care of kids 0-8yrs while their parents go about stuff there ie: the Gym/Fitness Center/Theater/Physio/etc …did I mention it’s a big building?)

Anyway

Then my lungs started acting up like someone was squeezing them shut,  that’s when I dug out my inhalers.

One morning I woke up with cough and assumed I had caught a chest cold.

So I started my cold routine.

I  made my ginger honey lemon tea, had foods with lots of garlic and other beneficial herbs and tried to get lots of rest.

But alas 2 weeks later it still hadn’t cleared so come Sunday morning  after being up every 2 hours coughing we went  to the Hospital to get checked.

They of course, only confirmed what I had already assumed.

I had gotten a bad case of  Bronchitis.

Blah, so now I’m doing a week of penicillin with the hopes that it will finally be purged from my system.

Needless to say my creativity’s been a  bit low.

But I still managed to pull off 4 paintings in that time.

Today’s piece is “Believe in Me”

It is an 11″ x 15″ watercolor word art commission that I received over the Christmas holidays from an old High School friend back home.

She selected the words and requested it be done with a father, son and pregnant mother as she is soon expecting her second child.

believe-in-me

Well that’s it for today.

Check in tomorrow when I’ll be posting 1 of 2 completely abstract paitings.

Cheers,

A

2010 Gallery Exhibit

Just a quick note to say that I received confirmation today regarding my 2010 Gallery Exhibit.

I am now officially booked for the month of February at the Alberta Lottery Fund Gallery

located in Fort Saskatchewan in the Dow Centennial Center building.

So I now have 1 year to prepare for my first big  Gallery Exhibit.

Crazy! 🙂

I’d post more but I’m not feeling that great…I think I have a lung infection.

New Year-New Art

**LOL I had this written and forgot to hit publish way to start things off**

Happy New Year 2009

Alright so I’ll admit it, I’ve been slacking.

Oh but it’s easy to do lol.

What have I been doing?

Well, I’ve been playing video games,

setting up aquariums,

cooking up a storm,

took up knitting (which takes forever lol)

and helping hubby with his new hobby(Warhammer) which is painting, just not artsy painting lol.

I haven’t entirely slacked off though, I have been working on a few different commissions (bookmarks and watercolor word art)

And I do have a piece to share.

It’s an 8″ x 10″ acrylic piece.

I was browsing through some old National Geographics  which I like to do from time to time because they’re chalked full of resource material

and stumbled across a photo of a spiderweb, which for whatever reason caught my attention and inspired today’s piece.

Now normally I’m not a fan of spiders AT ALL but I thought the web was beautiful and set off to try my own version.

So here it is:

spiderweb

I’ll attempt to post here more regularly this year and for those of you who like to shop for art you can find my artwork for sale on Etsy at themilkeway.etsy.com

Cheers and here’s wishing you a colorful and creative 2009.

“Comfort Me” commission & ramblings

Ok Ok so I’ve been a little slack posting lately.

I’d like to say it’s because I’ve been busy but in reality things have kinda slowed down.

With Christmas coming I suppose I’m just looking forward to relaxing and finalizing the suite so we can stop living out of boxes.

Still haven’t put up my Christmas tree yet but again that has to do with the fact my livingroom is crowded until things get finished.

I’m still taking commissions and have another tradeshow coming up next weekend so hopefully things will pick up again.

I did say I was working on a watercolor word art commission for a lady I met at one of the last tradeshows and promised to post it after she picked it up which she did, on Saturday so here is “Comfort Me”.

For those of you who have been following along you may recognize the figures as “Hold Me” but I think it works quite nicely in this setting.

Very calming.

If anyone is interested in getting an 11″x15″ piece done I am having a Christmas special on commissioned watercolor word art. Regular $120 down to 1/2 price $60. Once completed, they will be mailed to you in a stay flat mailer. You can email me to contact me (themilkeway(at)gmail.com)

Also for those of you missed my last notice, I now have all the purchasable paintings on sale at Etsy. Just visit themilkeway(at)etsy.com

I’m also currently working on 2 other acrylic paintings which if I ever get them finished I will post. One is a portrait and the other is something simpler and new. The portrait is progressing um “interestingly” I’m not quite sure what else to say about it. It’s cool yet a bit freaky…we’ll see.

Anyway I should run.

Cheers,

Amanda
