Art News

I won’t begin to list the reasons why I haven’t posted lately (primarily illness) but I will tell you some news.

We (hubby & I ) went out shopping Saturday since it was FCBD (Free Comic Book Day) but before we hit the comic shops we stopped into a local craft sale.

I thought perhaps I might find some gift ideas for mother’s day.

Anyway as I was browsing  Jonathan came across a lady that was selling a variety art work and other artsy/crafty items.

He being the proud hubby he is mentioned that his wife also was an artist and was having trouble breaking into the local art community.

That’s when he discovered that it wasn’t her art she was selling but artists that she represented.

Turns out she’s an Art Dealer and has her own small gallery.

She was interested in seeing my work and came by our place on Sunday to have a look.

Long story short, she liked my work and was interested in representing me.

So our simple shopping excursion ended with me finding an Art Dealer.

Crazy world.

And as it turns out, the annual Art walk is happening this week so I’ll have some of my work on display

and for sale. I’ll also be painting in the Axis building downtown on Saturday.

Fort Saskatchewan Downtown Art Walk
Tuesday, May 5 through Saturday, May 9, 2009
See what local artists have to offer at downtown’s annual Celebration of the Arts.
So ya, you never know what could happen when you walk out your front door each day.
More to come!
Cheers,
Amanda

As you may have noticed,

acrylic-paintI’ve taken a break from posting.

I felt I needed some time to collect my thoughts, pool my creativity and catch up on my reading/research.

Although I enjoy the challenge of trying to post new artwork on a regular basis I decided I needed some space to re-center myself.

No I haven’t stopped painting, quite the opposite, I’m currently working on something that will be my largest piece to date.

(I’m not talking wall size or anything that grand but definitely larger than I’ve done in past).

This particular piece requires my full attention and I fear straying from it to work on other things may hinder its progress.

So, until it is complete  all other art work has ceased.

I promise I’ll share this new creation with you just as soon as I feel it’s finished and ready to be seen.

Until then, sit tight, read a book and stay creative.

Cheers,

Amanda

Thursday Daydreams

Again as promised here is one of the pieces I finished while I’ve been sick.

I was talking to another old High School friend a few weeks ago and she commented that she really liked my “Echoed Thought” piece. Continue reading “Thursday Daydreams”

In the Beginning

As promised, here is one of the abstract paintings I did while I was sick.

The inspiration for this piece  comes from the first few verses of Genesis chapter one.

The painting is called: “The Beginning of the Beginning.” and is painted on 8″ x 10″ canvas board.

Below are  the verses for your reference.

Genesis 1: 1-9 (New International Version)

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was  formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. 6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. 9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

Check in tomorrow for the next piece.

Cheers,

A
