Farmer’s Market 2015

Well it’s that time of year again, the sun’s shining, the plants are greening up and the Farmer’s Market season Opens.

Our first market starts this Thursday so I’ve been spending the last few nights working on jewelry including some of these colourful beaded wrap bracelets.

So I haven’t forgot to post, I’ve just gotten busy as usual πŸ™‚

I’ll post some pictures of the market Thursday night or Friday so check back and have a great night.

Cheers,

Rain, Gardening & Industrial Wash

Good Morning Everyone,

Hope everyone had a nice relaxing weekend.
Over in our end of Alberta, we had some great weather and much needed rain though not enough to get rid of the current province wide fire ban sadly.

I spent the weekend visiting with Hubby’s extended family and gardening and delivering a painting to a local customer.

Those of you who follow me on Facebook may know already that every year we plant a sizable garden and this year is no exception. If you’ve never grown your own food I highly recommend it. Not only is it environmentally responsible but you’ll never look at grocery store produce the same once you’ve tasted home grown! And really who needs a lawn?! If you’re an apartment dweller you’d be surprised the things you can grow in containers πŸ™‚

This year our harvest (assuming everything grows well) will consist of: Beef steak Tomatoes, Garlic, Chives, Raspberries, Strawberries, Blueberries, Rhubarb, Carrots, Purple Haze Carrots, Peas, Green Beans, Scarlet runner Beans, Beets, Cucumbers (regular & pickling), Rutabaga, Parsnips, Lettuce, Squash & Spaghetti Squash, Zucchini, Peppers and Japanese Daikon Radish.

I asides from working in the veggie garden I also planted a few Gerber Daisies and Geraniums this weekend to add a bit more color to the yard.

And as I mentioned above Sunday I had the pleasure of delivering my painting “Industrial Wash” to a local collector.

Happy Tree vs Trashy Tree

So I saw this today
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/france/parisandaround/11169917/Paris-sex-toy-sculpture-causes-a-stir.html

And was reminded yet again why I get so frustrated with the Modern/Abstract art community.

First off the next person that gasps and calls my art riskΓ© is getting a list of MUCH more evocative pieces than mine and told to suck it up, because I am positively conservative in comparison…you know who you are!

Secondly, artists like McCarthy frustrate me. Didn’t you study Art History? Duchamp made his point with his “Fountain” now move on, learn from it and stop peddling crap (in some cases literally).

Just because it worked for Margritte does not mean you can pull it off especially when the piece you are trying to re-create is giant, bright green and clearly resembles a sex toy. “Ceci N’est pas une…” Um yes, yes it is.

I’m sure the Slap Happy Parisian was just trying help Mr McCarthy snap  back to reality.

As good old Shakespeare said
“What’s in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet;”….
Hmm wait, You say “Tree”, I say “Sex toy”…it’s still a Potato.

The other trouble with pieces like “Tree” and many, many others like it is that they cause the non Art community to question the value of Art as a discipline, especially a government funded one that will cause lil Timmy to have grand thoughts of someday creating giant inflatable sex toys and sticking them in the middle of a major city and also tends to add fodder to the grand debate to cut Arts from schools altogether.

So just a thought, for future reference (and to keep the non-Art community off our backs,) the next time you want to evoke the whole identity switcheroo you aim for subtly.

For example

How about a giant inflatable Green Lego Tree called “Sex Toy” πŸ˜‰

If nothing else, Bob Ross might rest better knowing that “in our world there lives a happy little tree”.

Falling into Autumn

Don’t you just love Fall!
Spring & Summer are great but there’s just something about Fall that’s lovely.
Crunch of crisp leaves, red, orange, yellow & brown earthy pallet of colours, cool fall air and the smells of Harvest with its baking & preserving. Yep definitely my favourite season.

But with the arrival of Fall we have to bid adieu to Summer and with it the end of the Farmers Market.
This Thursday is our last Farmers market for the season.

It’s been a great year with so many wonderful customers! I look forward to next years…though admittedly I am looking forward to the break from setting up my tent and being at the mercy of Mother Nature..(who I swear saved all her “colourful” weather for Thursday nights).
But all the same it was a wonderful summer, met some wonderful customers and worked beside some talented vendors and best of all got to watch my girls grow and experience the excitement of the weekly market.

As the saying goes, there is a season for everything and as we bid farewell to Summer with its outdoor markets we now move into Fall with its indoor venues and upcoming Christmas sales.

I’m especially looking forward to working on new inventory! So check back often as I start to showcase some new creations and post about my upcoming venues. It looks to be a busy & productive season.

So Hello Fall!

Cheers,
Amanda
