New Tree of Knowledge Progress

Good Morning,

So not terribly surprising but I fell off the posting wagon again.
I need an app that let’s me just think my posts into existence lol

So what’s new?
Glad you asked.
I spent most of January off, took a trip down East to visit family and of course spent scads of time doing year end & inventory so that sort of justifies my lack of presence 😉

I’ve been more active on Facebook so you should like my page to keep up to date on my Etsy sales and current jewelry creations, & upcoming venues.

I’ve also been working on scads of projects, some old and some new including picking up work on my Tree of Knowledge 4 foot painting which I thought I would update you on the progress of in this post.

When last I posted about this piece this is where I left off.

I’ve spent the last few weeks working on it and I’ll post the progress gallery below but essentially what I did was build up lots and lots of texture and layers using a variety of products including Golden’s Pumice Gel, Glass Beads, Heavy Gel, Fiber Paste and other acrylic mediums.

For the “Good” side once my layers we built up I painted that half of the tree with Golden’s Pearl paint and highlighted in silver and outlined in Gold. This gave it a gorgeous iridescent effect that is awesome in person but hard to capture with my cell camera. Once it’s all done I get proper photo’s take.

For the Snake I based with glass beads which gave a very nice smooth but bumpy snakeskin feeling and highlighted with gold flecks.

And for the “Bad” half I used heavy gel to give pointy texture and pumice for the roots that gives a rough sandy feeling and highlighted with a metallic dried blood colored red for the tree outline, I had originally based that half of the tree in black with gray highlights but I found the detail too dark so I later reversed them and am happier with the outcome.

I’m hoping to finish it this week but I like to let things mellow for a few days so I can step back and get of feel of what I want to do next or call it good.

Well that’s it for today.

I promise I have a few more posts coming this week so check back with me.

Cheers,

Amanda

Jewelry in Progress

Some of my new supplies arrived last week so I’ve been busy painting, sanding, varnishing and glossing…I’ll save the “sanding & varnishing” for another entry and show you some of the “painting & glossing” this entry.

If you’ve been following along you’ll know that in the last could of years I’ve branched out artistically into the realm of jewelry and because I am in love with the Abstract Impressionist form & color I really wanted to incorporate that into my jewelry which I did in my watercolour painted pendants.

But now I have added a new type of paint to my arsenal that let’s me create beautiful organic yet abstract feeling textures & patterns.
These are just a few of the pieces I’ve been working on.

I love how rich and vibrant I can get the colours and how beautifully the blend & mix. Also can you tell that I’m in love with this gorgeous teal color.
The pieces that seem foggy had the sealer drying on them.

So stay tuned for some lovely pieces to be added to my Shop soon!
Also keep checking back for more in progress posts on art & jewelry.

Cheers,
Amanda

Public Art Submission

Well my submission is sent in now to sit and wait, and pace, and hope and dream….lol

What in the world am I talking about?

Well you see, the city I live in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta is looking for ART submissions for the new city hall

http://www.fortsask.ca/ftsk_Business/Initiatives.aspx?id=10878

The particularly exciting part is this line right here: “Submission will be accepted under two themes: a modern contemporary piece or our river and river valley.”

Modern Contemporary is right up my alley!

My proposal was for a nice big 7′ x 4′ foot pure Abstract painting with lots of nice texture and bright vibrant colors!

Best yet it would be hung just inside the Front Entrance to City Hall so lots of traffic.

I’m sure it would look amazing hanging there and would most assuredly be a conversation piece.

But now I have to wait!

Today was the last day for submissions.

Then they are going over the submissions on Tuesday June 4th and the selected party(ies) are supposed to be contacted June 7th.

Maybe if I hold my breath and Pray REALLY Hard???

Oh well if life has taught me anything it’s that you can’t bribe God lol so what will be is what will be meant to be.

Patience & Acceptance

Cheers,

Amanda

Oh ya almost forgot!

My Etsy shop is being set up so go check it out

Guitar Commission-Part One

As I mentioned in my previous post I’ve received a commission to paint an acoustic guitar.

For fun, I thought I’d post the progress here.

The guy who is commissioning it wanted a sense of abstracted hands moving/playing guitar.

Here’s the rough sketch he green lighted Continue reading “Guitar Commission-Part One”
