Snow much Fun

Things have yet again become a bit crazy in the Milke household since my last post primarily due to two factors: 1) DST (daylight savings time) and 2) Teething.
So most of my time has been spent adjusting schedules & soothing gums until yesterday.
See one of the basic stereotypes about living in Canada is our Snow and plethora of it.

(Which is fine by me because I love the stuff, though my husbands thinks that’s primarily because he does most of the shoveling)
But in good Canadian fashion we got a good ole blizzard style dump of 25cm yesterday so I thought why not take munchkin out and experience God’s snowy white canvas.
So I bundled her & I up and we tredged in the yard to play. For Munchkin that meant becoming an abominable snow baby, so to give her more mobility I plunked on her sled and pulled her around.
But of course I had to shake it up a bit cause it’s me, so I grabbed a spray bottle added a bit of vinegar so the nossel wouldn’t freeze, filled it with water and food colouring and we set off to paint the snow.

It was fun.
She seemed to enjoy watching the snow burst into colour and shapes.

I would have done more colours other than blue but I only had the one spray bottle on hand at the time.
I’ll have to pop into the dollar store and stock up for next time.
But just one more easy way to do colour and sensory play.

Cheers til next time, whenever that may be.

Supplies

As you can tell, I haven’t had the chance to create any more pieces for the “Curvy” series because (a) I’ve been working and (b) I was in need of more supplies.

Yesterday, I was able to rectify (b) by doing a bit of shopping after work.

I’d like to remove (a) as an obstacle as well  but that would require having more people contacting my Art Dealer Sharon at Gallery 45 to purchase some artwork.

Just in case you’re interested, you can reach her at gallery-45@mcsnet.ca or contact me directly at themilkeway@gmail.com.

In the mean time, I’ll show you what I got.

I’ll rant as I go along on how pricey Art supplies are getting.

I picked up an 8 pack of Winsor & Newton ink.inkGranted I only needed Black, but I like to have options and this set came with:

  • Black (Indian Ink)
  • Blue
  • Carmine
  • Canary Yellow
  • Emerald
  • Nut Brown
  • Orange
  • Violet

Nice set but it costs $50 regularly.

Quite the chunk of change.

At least they last awhile.

Luckily though, I had a coupon for 40% off a single item which helped cut the cost on that one.

Next, I found some Reeves Watercolours that they had on clearance.

I love clearance and reduced Art supplies lol it makes me giddy.

They were $5 so I picked up 2 regularly $15.

They’re about middle grade quality and for that price I figured I couldn’t go wrong.

Plus they keep forever.reeves

It has 12 tubes with your basic assortment of colours.

Finally, I grabbed some clear Rubber Contact Cement for my collages.

The small container costs something like $6 and comes with a brush attached to the lid.

I figured I’d give it a whirl, I’ve heard that it works really well.

Plus it, like the ink, is Acid Free and Archival worthy.

So I’ll see how that works out for me, plus extra bonus, hubby can use it for his miniatures when he’s making scenery.

Well that concludes my little shopping spree.

I’m hoping to finish the collage I’m working on and do up a few more Curvy’s in the next few days.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

Amanda

Oh one more thing, for those of you who wonder what I’m like outside of my artwork we (hubby and I) have started up another blog.

Everyday Adventures with The Milkes

It’s couple/normal life oriented and will have lots of miscellany posts so feel free to check it out. 🙂

Curvy #2

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve started another watercolor & ink series.

This series will consist of a watercolor background and a curvy woman inked in.

What I also neglected to mention

(and you can’t really tell that well  in the photos)

is that the watercolor background also has traces of either silver or gold acrylic paint to give additional character and depth.

As with my previous series “Life Simplified”, the emphasis is on simplistic beauty.

The dimensions are 11″ x 15″ and as usual painted on cold press 140lb watercolor paper.

Here is #2 in the Curvy series.

Curvy 2

I particularly like this one though I’m not quite sure why.

Perhaps it’s the colours or the submissive yet assertive posture of the woman.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers,

Amanda

Christmas Vacation

Since I haven’t been posting much lately I figure I’ll just say I’m on Christmas Vacation
and will be back online sometime before 2009.
My Etsy site will still be running throughout the holidays so if you are looking
to purchase some art to break in 2009 you can visit it at http://www.themilkeway.etsy.com

Merry Christmas and I’ll be back in a couple of weeks!
