Drowning in Lies

I finally finished the collage I’ve been working on, thanks to the rubber cement I picked up last week.

It’s called “Drowning in Lies” and is 16″ x 20″ mounted on canvas.

Since you cannot clearly read the small print in the photo, I’ve included it here.

If you want to stop being: fat, ugly, alone, unpopular and rejected then all you have to do is:
lose weight, get liposuction, have your stomach stapled, purge after every meal, get lip augmentations,
get breast implants, enlarge your nipples, exercise hourly, count every calorie,
eat organic, drink mineral water, recycle, be a conservationist
don’t snack, don’t eat, use anti-wrinkle cream, remove crow’s feet and laugh lines, stop aging, get a face lift,
get a new nose, get a new chin, get an eye lift,
buy brand name: clothes, high heels, bags, makeup, jewelry, cars,
use diet pills, follow all the trends, wear the newest styles, never wear the same outfit twice,
wear makeup but look like you don’t need it, wear fake nails, wear fake eyelashes, take vitamins,
wax your bikini area, wax your legs, wax your eyebrows, wax your toes, get laser hair removal surgery,
exfoliate hourly, cleanse hourly, moisturize hourly, condition daily,
memorize the Kama Sutra, be a sexual gymnast, act like a goddess, act like a porn star, act like a diva,
act like a princess, own a life time gym membership, have a career,
get married, stay single, use birth control, have kids
and finally be unique like everyone else;
only by conforming to this routine will you become:
sexy, popular, successful, loved, respected, desired
and admired as

the pinnacle of femininity.

The above text is scattered throughout the collage and will be glued to the back of the piece for easier reading.

Supplies

As you can tell, I haven’t had the chance to create any more pieces for the “Curvy” series because (a) I’ve been working and (b) I was in need of more supplies.

Yesterday, I was able to rectify (b) by doing a bit of shopping after work.

I’d like to remove (a) as an obstacle as wellย  but that would require having more people contacting my Art Dealer Sharon at Gallery 45 to purchase some artwork.

Just in case you’re interested, you can reach her at gallery-45@mcsnet.ca or contact me directly at themilkeway@gmail.com.

In the mean time, I’ll show you what I got.

I’ll rant as I go along on how pricey Art supplies are getting.

I picked up an 8 pack of Winsor & Newton ink.inkGranted I only needed Black, but I like to have options and this set came with:

  • Black (Indian Ink)
  • Blue
  • Carmine
  • Canary Yellow
  • Emerald
  • Nut Brown
  • Orange
  • Violet

Nice set but it costs $50 regularly.

Quite the chunk of change.

At least they last awhile.

Luckily though, I had a coupon for 40% off a single item which helped cut the cost on that one.

Next, I found some Reeves Watercolours that they had on clearance.

I love clearance and reduced Art supplies lol it makes me giddy.

They were $5 so I picked up 2 regularly $15.

They’re about middle grade quality and for that price I figured I couldn’t go wrong.

Plus they keep forever.reeves

It has 12 tubes with your basic assortment of colours.

Finally, I grabbed some clear Rubber Contact Cement for my collages.

The small container costs something like $6 and comes with a brush attached to the lid.

I figured I’d give it a whirl, I’ve heard that it works really well.

Plus it, like the ink, is Acid Free and Archival worthy.

So I’ll see how that works out for me, plus extra bonus, hubby can use it for his miniatures when he’s making scenery.

Well that concludes my little shopping spree.

I’m hoping to finish the collage I’m working on and do up a few more Curvy’s in the next few days.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

Amanda

Oh one more thing, for those of you who wonder what I’m like outside of my artwork we (hubby and I) have started up another blog.

Everyday Adventures with The Milkes

It’s couple/normal life oriented and will have lots of miscellany posts so feel free to check it out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wasabi nymph?

Well it’s Wednesday, the notorious hump day of the week…

Here’s what I have for you today.

Last night as I was working on my leaf collage, I had originally planned to set it on a green background but decided it would be too busy.

So I set it aside. Today however, I was doodling and decided to combine the doodle with the background.

The result was something yet untitled. Though I do have a few ideas… ๐Ÿ˜›

First, let’s take a look at what we have.

Doodle= green woman

Doodle combined with collage=Doodle collage

So titles.

Here’s a few I’ve been mulling over:

1-Green woman

2-Nymph

3-Wasabi girl

4-Wasabi nymph

5- Green goddess

6-Green wasabi nymph goddess ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, let me know what you think and if you can come up with any better titles let me know!

Cheers,

A

Well, here it is.

I finished “it”.

I’m not quite sure what “it” is, but I’m sure I’m finished because I’m tired and want to go to bed.

So, here you go. Seneca

You know how they liken the art an artist makes to a child, like you just gave birth to a piece.

Ya well, I’m not 100% sure yet,

(mainly because my judgment is slurred by need of sleep)

but I think this is the ugly one I put up for adoption. ๐Ÿ˜›

We’ll see how I feel in the morning.

Anyway, Goodnight and enjoy the video.
