Happened, Going to Happen, Happening

Lots seems to be happening around here even though I sometimes fail to realize it.

Here’s a look at what’s happened, going to happen and happening.

Happened-My art showcase at Edmonton Jam Space finished Oct 4th so I picked up my paintings from Jonny on the weekend. Things have picked up for him too so he hasn’t had a chance to set up the next artist for display. Those walls are going to look some bare. He offered to have me back sometime so I may set something up for the future. I did however leave him with a “Commission Flier” to stick up in case anyone wants their old guitar made over into art.

Going to HappenNov 15th, 2008: Shop in the Fort Trade show (I’ve already mentioned this one)

*New*-I have a gallery showing booked at the Dow Centennial Center’s Gallery for the whole month of February 2010. Sure it’s a ways off but hey it gives me LOTS of time to create new pieces and have old ones framed. Either way exciting.

Happening-I currently have 2 abstract paintings, 2 new watercolor series, commissions, and some abstract recycled jewelry on the go. Fun Stuff:

One of the abstract paintings you’ve already had a glimpse at and the other one I’m keeping until it’s finished.

I will give you a peek at one of the new watercolor series I’m working on.

It’s a three piece series titled: “Three Fold Prayer” and will be done in the same style as all my other watercolor pieces such as “Life Simplified”.

Here are the outline drawings and I’ll be adding the watercolor today with the hopes of starting the text on at least one of the pieces. Each piece is 9” x 12” on 195gms weight cotton acid free watercolor paper.

Back to work.

Cheers,

A

Blogging Anniversary

Well, it’s been 1 year today since I first decided to give this blogging thing a whirl.

I must say I was apprehensive at first simply because I’m not a writer. Usually I’m a person of very few words but 123 posts later I seem to be doing alright.

I started this blog with 3 goals/desires in mind:

1-I’ve always been of the opinion that art should be shared and experienced with others, yet aside from my close circle of acquaintances, I was doing nothing to get out there. I wanted this blog to be a chance for me to step outside of myself, to leap beyond my inverted-ness and open up a little more. I’ve always been a quiet person, even around my friends and family. It’s actually one of my friends’ and familys’ pet peeves about me, and also the reason why I have such a small social circle. But I am trying, and this blog has helped me to spread my artistic soul a bit more as it were.

2-I go through creative phases, by which I mean I’ll be really creative for months and then just dry up. I realized, that if I truly wanted to make a career out of my art I couldn’t go years or even months without doing something artistic. So I created this blog with the thought of it serving as a constant reminder/challenge for me to always strive to be creative. Granted there’ve been “off” months, but things have taken off and I find myself always with a project in mind or a piece on the go.

3-Simply put, I wanted unbiased feedback. I wanted to put my art out there and see what people actually thought. I’ve always been of the opinion that criticism is a good thing. I mean sure, I love hearing why people like a certain piece, but I also need to know why people don’t like something. I know I won’t always please everyone, and I never expect to. But criticism helps you to see the other side of things and ultimately helps to strengthen the work.

So those will continue to be my goals and things have been going well so far.

Obviously I can’t do an Anniversary post without looking: to the past, at the stats and at some art. Continue reading “Blogging Anniversary”

“Life Simplified” at a glance

Just thought I’d do a quick post to review the “Life Simplified” series. So far the series consists of 7 pieces.

Each done using watercolor and permanent marker on 11″ by 15″ Cold Press acid free heavy weight paper.

Here they are in the order they were created. Continue reading ““Life Simplified” at a glance”

#7 of Life Simplified

Create ~ krē-āt
verb
14th century Middle English, from Latin creatus, past participle of creare; akin to Latin crescere to grow te:

1: to bring into existence
2 a: to invest with a new form, office, or rank b: to produce or bring about by a course of action or behavior
3: cause, occasion
4 a: to produce through imaginative skill b: design

I’ve finished the last piece I had painted for the series, #7.

From here on I’m back to square one in terms of the creation process.

Interestingly enough 7 emphasizes creation,

so it’s only fitting that I pause here before going on.

I’ll update once I have more images to add. Til then, I leave you with #7 “Create with me.”
