and now back to the ART

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I’ve been toying with the idea of changing the background of the “Tribal Holding” piece (#4 in the Hold Me series) to a darker solid red.

So that’s what I did this morning and am glad I did.

You can be the judge for yourself, but I think it gave it that extra edge it was missing.

Here’s the before,—–>Hold Me #4 Here’s the after,—–>Tribal holding revised

So ya, now I’m completely satisfied with it. 🙂

Keep checking back, I’m hoping to add a few more things later today.

Cheers,

The ArT of CoMmEnTs

Since, I only have a short lunch break today I will try and make this a small rant.

Yesterday, I had a total of 95 visitors to my site.

Let’s say 1/4 of them only made it to the front page and said “Oh, a blog, not what I wanted” and moved on. I can live with that.

That leaves approximately 71.25 people. Let’s say, 1/6 of them are either illiterate or can’t read English. K fine, just look at the pictures and learn later, I can deal.

That leaves approximately 59.375 people. Let’s say, 1/10 of them have busted keyboards and don’t feel like copying and pasting each letter with their mouse. Ok, I get that.

That leaves approximately 53.4375 people. Let’s say, 1/8 of them we’re taught by their parents that, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Ok sure, although, I’d recommend growing a back bone, I can still cope.

That leaves approximately 46.7578125 people. Let’s say, 1/4 of them were mysteriously abducted by Aliens or Bigfoot. It’s ok, you go ahead and fight the good fight. I can wait.

That leaves approximately 35.068359375 people. Let’s say, 1/8 of them just had their motherboard or hard drive blow up. You shouldn’t have bought the cheap computer but hey, you take all the time you need.

That leaves approximately 30.684814453125 people. Let’s say, 1/4 of them just finished either their daily 8 glasses of water intake / a bad TacoBell burrito and suddenly feel nature calling. You do what you gotta do man. I’ll be ok.

That leaves approximately 23.01361083984375 people. Let’s say, 1/4 of them are dog owners and Poochy’s itching for walkies. Who am I to stand in the way of owner pet bonding.

That leaves approximately 17.2602081298828125 people. Let’s say, 1/2 of them get propositioned by their spouses for activities more entertaining then commenting on my blog. It’s ok, I so get it. Knock yourself out.

That leaves approximately 8.63010406494140625 people.

Now these people, I KNOW, have nothing better to do than surf the internet.

All I’m saying is you could show a little more love people.

I mean someday, I might be one of those 8.63010406494140625 people browsing your blog and think yanno, I should leave this guy/gal some input. They might appreciate it. But instead just ghost em to tick em off.

You hear what I’m saying?

Just saying….

Tribal holding

Well its finished. “Hold Me #4” that is.

When looking back at the previous 3 pieces I noticed the couple was fairly distinguishable from each other.

I decided this time I would make them more interconnected.

I also thought I’d aim for a tribal/tattooed look.

So here it is, another one completed.

(At least mostly that is. I still haven’t decided whether it would look better with just a solid red background instead. So, I may change it later)

WTF is Art Issue #1: The debate on good or bad art

Right so it’s lunch time and I was sitting here eating my bento and browsing the net when I stumbled upon 2 exhibits that kinda ruffled my fur as it were.

The first one is called “Head On” by Cai Guo-Qiang.

Head onHead on 2

It is quite literally wolves in sheep’s clothing.

I quote: “ The wolves were produced in Quanzhou, China, from January to June of 2006. The commissioned local workshop in Cai’s hometown specializes in manufacturing remarkable, life-sized replicas of animals. First, small clay models were created as movement studies, out of which Cai subsequently developed Head On’s artist editions of cast resin wolves. However, the realistic and lifelike 99 wolves that grew out of these models and drawings possess no literal remnants of wolves: they are fabricated from painted sheepskins and stuffed with hay and metal wires, with plastic lending contour to their faces and marbles for eyes. ” (source)

Ok aesthetically speaking it’s a cool exhibit. I’m even down with the artist’s intended meaning. AND I get that they’re all happy that no wolves were harmed in the producing of this piece. But that I don’t get is how they justify the sheep?

What? Because they’re edible it’s ok to slaughter 99 sheep in the name of Art?

Yippee, free mutton for the assembly crew!?

The second one, Apples as pixels

Apple pixelsApple pixels2Cherry Blossom apples

(I couldn’t find the original source for this one so if anyone knows of it, let me know.)

Ok sure, it’s beautiful, probably fairly original and all, but what the hell were they thinking. I mean first off, what an absolutely senseless waste of food. I dunno who thought it was a good idea to strip the fields of its produce and slap em on walls for decoration instead, of oh I dunno, maybe feeding the homeless or selling them and then feeding the homeless with the profit money.

I mean if that fact alone doesn’t bother you, think for moment…apple buildingwhat happens when those things start rotting off buildings?

Hmm? Not a pretty picture anymore now is it?
